The main reason for damp in walls inside homes lies in one of the following possible root causes:
Absence of waterproofing systems on the outside of the wall (the part in contact with the subgrade soil).
Damage to the waterproofing system due to the absence of any efficient "mechanical protection of the waterproofing".
Air saturated with moisture (lack of adequate ventilation) and cold brickwork (walls not thermally insulated), which result in water vapour condensing on the cold wall.
All the above can bring about a series of issues, such as:
Whitish patches appearing on walls (a phenomenon known as "efflorescence") as salt deposits are left behind.
Surface plaster becoming detached.
Onset of damp patches.
SOLUTION
The best solution consists in identifying which of the above is the "underlying cause" and taking action to eliminate it altogether. Generally, though, this proves an extremely difficult and costly operation. With TeMa's T-Kone Plaster and its 8mm air gap between the original wall and "new wall", air circulation is guaranteed, while the special profile at the bottom eliminates excess moisture.
